The CHP responded to a report of a two-car collision on Santiago Canyon Road just south of Hicks Haul Road at 00:44 Wednesday morning. The crash was reported as being between a Toyota Corolla and a “blue car”.

At least one victim appeared to have been ejected from their vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. [This is incorrect: the victim was not ejected. Please see the correction below.] Wreckage was strewn across multiple lanes of the roadway.

Santiago Canyon was shut down in both directions for several hours while investigators processed the scene.

The cause of the crash is unknown and is under investigation. Contributing factors are not known.

The victim’s next of kin has not yet been notified.

Please see the correction below.

According to KTLA , the crash occurred between a Hyundai Sonata who had previously struck a tree and come to rest in opposing lanes and a Hyundai Elantra who came by later. The Sonata driver, a 28-year-old man, had exited his vehicle when the Elantra approached and was unable to avoid a collision. The Sonata driver was killed and pronounced dead at the scene, while his 27-year-old passenger survived with minor injuries.

I was unable to get any official statement from the CHP, so for further details, please refer to the KTLA article .
